Goals of BARC
The Body of Animal Rights Campaigners (BARC) is UCF’s only
organization that deals with animal rights and promotes vegetarianism. The main
goal of this organization is to educate students and others about the issue of
animal rights, hoping to promote vegetarianism and other ethical animal
practices. BARC does not believe in forcing people to practice their beliefs,
they peacefully educate others on issues in animal rights which include the
abuse and exploitation of animals for food, clothing, or recreation. They
believe that educating others about these issues is a successful strategy in
promoting animal rights, as people will be more aware of what activities they do
and choices they make that are unethical for animals. Showing people the
unethical treatment of animals and how it affects humans can persuade people to
practice the ethical treatment of animals and can convince people to join the
group. By convincing people to become a vegan or vegetarian the group addresses
the issue of the mistreatment of animals in the food industry. The group
convinces people to cut meat out of their diet by showing them the cruel and
unusual treatment of livestock, which shows them that animals deserve better
treatment and that these methods of raising livestock pose risks to their own
health. This is a peaceful and successful way to persuade people to become an
advocate for animal rights, rather than forcing these beliefs on others.
